"Dalla sua nascita e per molti anni successivi il golf è stato uno sport elitario e questo si è riflettuto anche nelle strutture ad esso dedicate, circoli molto raffinati ed esclusivi, difficilmente accessibili."
Da diversi anni invece si sta lavorando per recuperare la natura sportiva di questo gioco e per ampliarne il bacino di utenza. In Italia, così come in molti altri Paesi, sono quindi nate diverse strutture pensate per avvicinare la gente al golf. Strutture in cui, con una spesa minima, le persone potessero provare questo affascinante sport e praticarlo con assiduità.
Proprio con questo spirito innovativo si è dato vita ad un importante progetto di recupero ambientale su un’area di circa 40.000 mq destinata negli anni ’70 a sito estrattivo e successivamente abbandonata e divenuta discarica abusiva. Dopo importanti lavori di bonifica e strutturali, dove allora sorgeva una cava, nel 2003 è stato inaugurato il Golf Acropolis.
Il progetto, inizialmente solo un semplice campo pratica, si è rivelato subito vincente nel suo intento e negli anni successivi sono stati effettuati diversi ampliamenti. Adesso la struttura dispone anche di un’area putting green, di una zona approcci, di una nuova club house (dotata di spogliatoi e di bar/ristorante) e di un percorso di 3 buche.
Il 2012 ha visto l’ingresso dell’associazione Comogolf Italy con la sua pluriennale esperienza di organizzazione di eventi golfistici, ora impegnata a mantenere vivo lo spirito con cui è nato il circolo.
